Video Q&A about the Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer

My mother died of pancreatic cancer three months after her diagnosis in 1998. It was a brutal death and my biggest fear is for my own children to see me go through the horrific suffering that she endured. Is there a genetic disposition to developing pancreatic cancer and, if so, would you recommend genetic testing for a first degree relative? If one is found to carry a genetic risk, what would you recommend they do to ensure early detection?

I don’t know if there is a genetic disposition (my mother died of colon cancer and I have had ovarian and breast) but I want to know how pancreatic cancer is diagnosed..

My paternal and Maternal grandfathers had pancreatic cancer. 5 years ago my mother and her sister had pancreatic cancer and passed away 6 months of each other. Last year My maternal Grandmother passed away from Non Hodgkins lymphoma. Two years ago my Dad has his upper jaw and right sinus removed from oral cancer. And I just finished chemo in June for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. I want to get tested for several different kinds of cancer but I’m not sure where to start.

My mother died of pancreatic cancer within 1 months of diagnosis. Like many other comments, I am interested of any genetic component for pancreatic cancer.

Also interested in finding out about any early warning signs unique to pancreatic cancer and if you have been diagnosed with other cancers are you more likely to develop pancreatic cancer?

My sister and I are breast cancer survivors. Both are BRCA1 and BRCA2 positive. They now believe there is an increase risk of panreatic cancer with BRCA1 and BRCA2. Brother did not have the genetic testing. However, he had prostate cancer 15 years ago and died this summer from pancreatic cancer. My oncologist is now keeping a watch on my pancreas (ultrasounds every 2 years). Since my brother’s passing, I have heard of 2 other acquaintances with this disease, but their outcome sounds promising! I look forward to seeing this video,
