Description
An overview of treatment options for children with low grade gliomas is discussed. The webinar features Mayo Clinic Pediatric Neurosurgeon, David Daniels, M.D., and Mayo Clinic Pediatric Neurologist, Gesina Keating, M.D.. Both physicians discuss diagnosis and treatment options including: observation, surgery and chemotherapy. Follow-up care for children with low grade gliomas is also be discussed including: Pilocytic Astrocytomas, Gangliogliomas, DNETs and other low grade brain tumors. After the presentation Dr. Daniels and Dr. Keating answered questions.

I just got sound back. Are they speaking to proton beam radiation or whole brain radiation when speaking of having long term cognitive issues?
Like poster V Sica, my daughter was diagnosed with an optic pathway tumor in the chiasm and in the hypothalamus. She had about 95% removed surgically, followed by chemo. Since the surgery, she's experienced intractable weight gain along with other endocrine symptoms. Have you seen hypothalamic obesity, and how are you dealing with it? Thank you.
Regarding radiation, what about proton versus photon?

Unlike Carol M, my granddaughter has not had surgery. Her doctor advised against it. She is treated at All Children's in St. Petersburg , Florida. She is also experiencing hypothalamic obesity. I would be interested in finding out about treatment.

My 3 1/2 grandson with Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma has hypothalamic obesity as well V Sica. Surgeon also advised against surgery. Basically inoperable. I worry about the obesity. He also has nystagmus and learning delays
