I tried a couple of these services myself a couple years ago as well. We tried HelloFresh and Gobble. We have a vegetarian in the house, so that guided our choice. I agree with Debbra that the calories with the dinner were high, but we actually found we could most often get double the serving portions they said were included, particularly if I made something like a simple frozen vegetable extra side with it for the family. That made it feel a bit more economical as well. I do not remember for sure if the prep time was included when you order. That likely varies per site. I know we personally switched from one service to the other - I think from HelloFresh to Gobble? - because the veg came diced up in one but not the other. For me, it was all about saving time: I can go to the store and buy a bag of potatoes myself and cut them up, but a service where everything was chopped, measured, and as I call it with my kids, "cooking show ready"? That is what I wanted.

That's good information @drmelaniechandler - I appreciate your thought that the serving sizes may be driving the calories. I'm going to check it out. Also LOVE the idea of making an extra veggie on the side. When I was younger, your goals were mine - feed the family with a minimum of prep work. Now in my life, I have more time. I don't mind the prep - what I'm looking for in meal services is a way to add some variety to our meals w/o making it a big increase in calories.

I’ve tried blue apron, sun basket, green chef, and gobble (the current one). We are liking Gobble because recipes should take about 15 minutes - cooking show ready - and the recipes have been tasty. The portions are good and I usually choose meals with no starch, and then I can add that bc we always have a starch available at home if we need to stretch the meal to feed 4. We also liked green chef which is organic and tasty, but the meals took way too long to prepare.
