Hi there. Does anyone else out there experience acid reflux to the point where your reflux , when lying down/sleeping, enters into your lungs and/ or your sinuses? If so, have you been treated successfully? I have had GERD since high school. I have tried all the PPIs under the sun and I finally found a PPI that successfully treats the burning sensations and pain experienced from GERD. However, I have noticed that over time, my LES (lower esophageal sphincter), the sphincter muscle that prevents back up of stomach contents into the esophagus, is gone. It doesn't do what it's suppose to do anymore. So I fight gravity everyday and when I lay down at all, I get back up to my throat and when in a deep sleep and lying flat it goes into my lungs and sinuses and inner ear cannal. I sleep propped up with a million pillows but it seems to just be band-aide. So some side effects are: coughing/productive coughing, pneumonias, yellow sputum, post nasal drip, inner ear pain, dizziness from inner ear pain, vertigo, and the most serious, spontaneous pneumomediastinum. Anyone have any inspring stories of treatments, excercises, natural treatments, special doctors they've encountered concerning this? Anything? Thank you so much 🙂

Buffy, I hope you have been visiting with a doctor... I know it must be awful to endure this. I have a close friend who finally ended up getting better and sleeping comfortably at night because they finally 'found' a med for her that actually worked...plus, she went through the 'food elimination' diet and by keeping track of the times she was worse, she learned to eliminate trigger foods. Even though I have not gone through this, just hoping my friend's 'getting better' experience will encourage you! Good luck to you.

Buffy, I have acid reflux but it's controllable. I take Prevacid and it helps tremendously. I have the bed elevated, looks odd but helps, six inches. A stack of pillows will make it worse. You body is bent, not elevated. You need to elevate your bed. If your doctor does not have you on Prevacid or something else, you need to ask for something. Also, no spicy foods, fried foods and don't eat anything before going to bed. Sweets make it worse so if yu want something sweet, eat a fruit; you can train yourself i time to eat right and healthy. above all, no fast foods. They would kill a healthy person. Carbinated driks are bad; drink water and herb teas. This will help but you still need to get your doctor to put you on something for the reflux. After so much reflux, it will damage lining of the esophogus and turn into cancer. I have seen this. I hope this helps. LovinJesus

Hi Buffy. I have LPR as well. It aggravates my asthma immensely and even with meds and the bed raised I had no luck. I can feel the food and acid come up at times. What works the best for me is changing my diet and eating habits. I eat very small meals though out the day and bought a great cookbook. It's called Dropping Acid (clever, huh?) and is co-written by a doctor and a chef. So far, everything I have made from it is very tasty (and I don't like cooking.) I also need to exercise a lot, which is difficult with asthma and reflux. Best of luck to you!

Buffy, My question to everyone and no answers is this: During exertion, I get a burning in my throat and then into my chest. Then I get so exhausted I have to go sit down for a while. Do you think this is from acid Reflux? I am taking Proislec (sp). It helps for a while, but then it starts all over again.

I have GERD diagnosed by the ER
Since the 7th of December 2020.
1 month now that I know of.

However my swallowing issues started in August of 2020. With an inability to swallow completely or strongly rather. ( * That was around the same time I was perscribed Ativan for sleeping. )

Now January 2021 my swallowing has gotten worse. Now it also has clicking and popping sensations. My throat feels like it has a huge lump inside.

I also have a burning dry mouth & tounge.
Burning dry sinus.
Burning dry throat.

My sinuses are inflamed and my throat.
Which comes and goes.

I've lost some of my senses of smell but have gained incredible abilities with some smells especially sweet and floral.
I have also gained incredible taste buds. I'm tasting wayyyyyy too much.

It hurts so much when I breathe.
My lungs hurt resting, breathing in or out.

I'm talking omeprazole, sucralfate, and pepsid compete. I am also still talking Ativan .50 ( down from 3mg a day.)

I cannot help but think Ativan is the cause of all my problems... idk

I have been to the ER AND DOCTOR in this small city about 16 times since December 7th.

I really need support and answers badly.
When will this go away? Is this all normal?
Has anyone had GERD this bad and they fully recovered?

*I also have an endoscopy scheduled on the 21st. ( I'm scared. )

*And a pulmonary testing tomorrow.

Hi I was wondering if drinking Rabeprasole 20Mg is the right choice for me? I experience gassy which is due to acid.
I heard some people who drinks rabeprasole will get their stomach big after eating, does that mean the medicine is not right?

Any recommendation for which PPI should I take?

I am a relatively healthy 69 year old male who has had bouts of gerd (acid reflex) in my life. I've had several endoscopy"s done, most recently January of 2022 diagnosis of Gastritis. I don't smoke and drink in moderation socially (not a lot). Recently I developed my worst symptoms ever, not sleeping very good ( I have elevated bed),very bad pressure in chest which creates tremendous anxiety making it had to breathe and catch my breath, floor pacing...terrible stress on body. Oddly enough it's been worse every other morning when I wake up. I take Protonix and Pepcid, Mylanta and I just got some new stuff called Nutrasec, a tablet like Tums only better that you take after eating that helps a little. I was cruising right along until 10 days ago the it hit me like a tank. I gave up coffee and changed my diet drastically and am trying to schedule another endoscopy. I'm hoping maybe my esophagus needs stretched or I'm a candidate for esophagus sphincter surgery. I feel beat and it sucks trying to sleep on my left side all night. Anybody out there having similar problems?

Has anyone experienced water brash related to GERD? It's excessive saliva. What helped? This is my first episode.

Hi all I see great comments and suggestions, and I thank you for that, I myself I am suffering from accid reflux every morning I wake up I feel bitter mouth, I've seen my GI doctor and done endoscopy the doc says everything looks fine and gave me a med it worked for about a week was great but problem came back, I dont know what else to do, my doctor doesn't seemed to care much I can't change a doctor either here where I live I have to continie seeing same doctor because government paid doctor.. it's very very uncomfortable life quality deteriorates I'm afraid to develop cancer. I dont smoke i dont drink and i eat mostly healthy. please need help

Don’t eat 4 hours before bed. Buy a bed that you can elevate the mattress. Cut out all fried foods, soda, booze and no weed. I bought the book the acid watcher diet.
