Pneumonia Shot (vaccine) Misery
I got my pneumonia booster today and am regretting it tonight! Started in with pain late afternoon, after I made a cranberry upside down cake. Was an involved undertaking of making the sauce first then putting together the cake. By the time it went in the oven my husband was in charge of taking it out. I am swollen and hurting from my neck into my back down through my hip. My dad almost died from a vitamin shot and I definitely take after him. I hope it isn't an omen as the last time I went through the shot I came down with pneumonia a month later. I do my best to avoid shots and this is why. At least I haven't found myself covered with hives and unable to breathe, that happens usually. Even had that type of reaction to an allergy shot. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight and we are to get a considerable amount of snow tonight. I have already said I won't be in the classroom tomorrow so plan on a day of getting some rest to get over this reaction.

1 Reaction@suzanne2- Oh, no! I hope that you did get some sleep. A lot of times when we get boosters or vaccines our own immune system goes into over drive. That's what causes these types of reactions. Our bodies fight it. Do you have any idea about your Dad's history of reacting the way it did to shots? Do you know of any tests that might tell of any route cause?

1 Reaction@suzanne2. This is pretty frightening. I hope it is all documented in your medical records and you can find out why this is happening so you can avoid it happening again. The only bad reaction I've had to a vaccination was from a typhoid shot I got before working in Africa. My entire upper arm swelled up and I had 102 fever and chills for three days. When it was time to get the six month booster, I told the doctor how sick the first shot had made me. He said that he wouldn't inject it directly into my muscle, which made all the difference. Are you allergic to eggs or anything? It seems like that is a question I've been asked before getting vaccinations. Please take care. Nancy

This appears to both be a "risk reward" situation, and your full disclosure to the inoculator prior to receiving the shot/s.
I hope they are putting ice on the shot location for at least 20 minutes after the shot before you leave the vicinity to minimize the effect.
The reaction should be monitored due to your sensitivity.

2 ReactionsI have recovered from the immunization. Miserable for about 18 hours. When I got my flu shot last Fall I was sick and with a temperature for 3 days. It seems the older I get the more I have adverse reactions to injections. I am definitely going to be more selective and cautious from now on! I have had to many reactions of late and it is raising a red flag for me.

Is your doctor aware of these reactions to vaccinations? If not, you should report them. There could be a particular ingredient that you are allergic to. Some investigation is probably a good idea.
@hopeful33250 Every time I tell my doctor I had a reaction his response is . it's just you, all in your head! There is no reason you could possibly have a reaction! So I am going to be saying no to shots.
Sorry, my feeling is that it is time to change doctors.
