Confused about timing of a 6 month following up mammogram

Posted by wyngnit @wyngnit, Dec 16, 2020

Is the six-month mammogram six months after surgery or six minutes after radiation. My surgeon wants to do it six months after surgery my radiation oncologist wants it six months after radiation that’s a huge gap

Thanks talked with My radiation oncologist and they advised me to talk to the surgeon who scheduled the mammogram. They told me that the radiation is still active in my body and will interfere with a mammogram results

My first mammogram was three months after finishing radiation. The one following that was another 3 months after the first one, and now has continued to be 6 months apart for the past 18 months. I think the timing of mammo’s is an individual thing, according to the type of cancer we experienced as well as what the choice is of the doctor we see. Good/great communication with our oncologists is so important for us to understand each of our individual medical cases and needs. I can’t emphasize enough the need to speak up and ask all the questions you need to at each appointment.
