Is this what you had in mind @indydonna ? (Note: I just learned that this device is for iPhone 7 or later, and you asked about 5s. Not sure if there are comparable devices for earlier models.)

@urgentresearch, Nice find. Thanks for sharing. The hearing aid companies claim to do the same thing but the reality is that it still does not work good enough. I hope the increased competition will get the manufacturers to improve. It will be interesting to try this product and to see if the improved audio can be used to improve the speech to text apps in noisy environments.
