Dry Eye & PN

I’ve never been sure if my dry eyes are caused by my SFN or the gabapentin. It is not severe and I have found Rhoto Cool eye drops work best for me. Helen

@testudo Yes indeed it can be. I am affected with dry eye and have neuropathy. It sounds like you do as well. I'm sorry. There is a discussion titled Eyes and Neuropathy where you will find more conversation. Type the title "Eyes and Neuropathy" in the grey search bar up top.

I don't think so -- my husband has dry eye, but not neuropathy

@rwinney I have had dry eyes for a long time but neuropathy so not sure about that

Thanks rwinny, I’m a newbie, not diagnosed with PN or dry eye, just told by doc I have pre diabetes. Slight burning in feet and sometimes hands. The slight burning eyes here and there have been going on for two months now. Dr. Google pointed me here. Wife has had dry eye for 3 years and has been on Restasis.

@lioness @testudo Science states peripheral neuropathy can affect eyes with causes of dryness. Studies suggest that many cases of dry eye have evidence of neuropathic pain that arises from chronic disorders of, as well as acute damage to, the corneal nerves. PN has such a wide spectrum of possible dysfunction that it's easy to blame many things on it. But, we're all different, with different types of PN and it gets mind boggling. I suggest when in doubt, ask your Dr.

Thanks rwinny, trying to get set up with a neurologist. Probably need a referral from GP. In the meantime working on getting the glucose down from 115 with hope of least halting any “progression“?

@testudo Sounds like a good plan for you. After meeting with a neurologist and figuring out your path forward, should it be prediabetes, there is a supplement protocol that may makes sense for you to slow progression.
