I have a terrible burn feeling in my chest after I eat certain foods.

Posted by Dusty14 @dusty14, Sep 1, 2020

I found acid reflux online and I have most of those symptoms Anybody else experience this and should I get checked or will it go away with changing my food choices. I have stopped dairy and fruit and it seems better

How long have you been bothered by reflux? If it's been a long time I'd get it checked. Stay away from spicy foods, tomato products, Italian food, fried foods, junk food, soda and booze. Unsweetened almond milk is alkaline and good for you. Drink more water. No eating 3hrs before bedtime. Raise your headboard 6" if you reflux at night.
Stay away from lemons, limes, grapes, apples, oranges as their all acidic. Ripe bananas are good and melons. No chocolate or mint. Hope this helps you.

@dusty14 - Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect!
So sorry that you have what sounds like acid reflux. Mine started years ago, now it’s better controlled with diet and acid reducing medication.
I think it would be a good idea to have a doctor check you out.

Hello @dusty14,

It seems as if you are doing a great investigation of foods that have been triggering the burning sensation. That is a great way to begin to address the problem. You might consider keeping a food journal and noting when the symptoms are worse. Do you try to reduce your intake of foods prior to bedtime? This can also be quite helpful.

Here is some information on Reflux from Mayo Clinic's website, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gerd/symptoms-causes/syc-20361940.

I'm glad to hear that you have a doctor's appointment on Monday, @dusty14. Will you post an update after that appointment and share what you have learned?

Try unsweetened almond milk, soy, dairy, gluten free. 1 carb per cup and it's alkaline which is good you.
I use it as creamer in my low acid coffee in the morning. Great in Cheerios too!

If you are experiencing gastronal issues such as ulcers you will benefit from a product called "Leaky Gut Revive". This product has ALL natural products in it, also the licorice in it aids in balancing the blood sugar as well as the spice cinimon. You can find the product on the web under "Amy Meyer" she is a MD. If you use this I know you will get results.

Other members here have already given you good advice about foods and drinks to avoid As well as not eating before bedtime.
It would be nice if you check in with us here now and then, especially if you need opinions from other members- what do you think? You never have to leave us!
