Bethany Beach, Delaware. I love it here. I run on the beach every day, bike most anywhere, the weather is mild compared to other places I've been, and the people are nice. I love California but it has changed so much ... I'm sure my old neighborhoods (Palos Verdes in LA, The Presidio in SF) are still safe but for how long? The cities are jungles, the monkeys have ravaged all the lower-hanging fruit and torn off the branches, they are hungry constantly, their numbers are increasing exponentially, they will get to the tops of the trees. Bethany Beach is on the Delmarva Peninsula, it's sparsely populated and safer than many other parts of the country. We're close to our daughter in Washington DC, taxes are low, new medical centers are opening up to fill the doctor shortage ... Our house near DC is in escrow, this month is busy for me as I'm there now making tough decisions about what the movers will take and what the "I'll take anything" junk man will take ... antiques, china, silver, art, musical equipment, have almost no value now. I can't take them, so I just have to let them go with the junk man. We aren't going to have dinner parties any more, we won't attend charity balls, our gracious life is over. It hurts but I will mend. I have the beach. I can remind myself that I am trading it all for the Atlantic Ocean, the salty/windy air, birds, seals, foxes, turtles, dolphins, whales ... in that perspective, it's worth it. Peggy

You guys are making me miss my old childhood haunts in Delaware. Stop it! 😊 I used to love going to Bethany Beach in the 50's & 60's. Is there anything better than the feeling of a safe and warm and family-loving memory from childhood? Peggy, my hat is off to you for doing something wonderful for yourself and moving to such a great place. My last visit was in 2003 and it had changed a bit bt not TOO much. Good luck on completing your move. Hank
