Non-Prescription Pain Relief
There is always a lot of discussion about pain relief using prescription medication but I would like to know if there is anything anyone has found over the counter that really works on pain. I guess I am talking more about muscle pain, or as I have fibromyalgia pain. I just went through a difficult weekend and I have no prescription medication to turn to. If anyone has something they have found that is nonprescription and has helped them I would appreciate their sharing.

Good afternoon @smitty1, I appreciate the reply which I guess is an additional inquiry. I cannot suggest ways that you won't get busted. What I can do is give you this link to how and where to buy marijuana in Washington DC. I hope that has some terminology that straightens things out for you. DC is quite different between recreational and medicinal regulations and buying practices.

Thanks for being so prompt. Here is what my mind understood from your response. You are struggling with a pain-causing condition, fibromyalgia, and a substance overabundance, (iron). The only medication you are taking for the pain is Neurontin aka Gabapentin. I think I might be doing more than just thinking about crying. I am so sorry for how it is right now. Here I go with the questions....please share as you feel comfortable.
Have you asked your Mayo pain clinician about the use of medical cannabis? My own protocol allows for different types of discomfort from different nerves within the body. And yet.....the relief can be within 15-45 minutes and last for 3-4 hours.
Have you discussed your level of pain and what might be called pain fatigue with your husband? Our loved ones sometimes just don't know what to say or do. And men, in my experience, are Mr. Fixits. They want to find out what is wrong, what will fix it, and then wait for it to be over. When that doesn't work, they tend to feel helpless and sad.
Relationship issues can increase stress and anxiety as you mentioned. Anxiety leads to pain and on and on. Has anyone talked to you about anti-anxiety medications? That alone can reduce your pain level.
Can you remember the last time you were pain-free? Can you share with me what that felt like?

3 Reactions@artscaping unfortunately I cannot recall being pain free. I fractured 2 vertebrae at age 7 and in a body cast for4 months. So my back issues began early. I have had fibromyalgia since my late 20's, I am 73 (but still teach preschool!). I broke 2 more vertebrae in 2010 and had 2 vertibroplasty done. Diagnosed with hemochromatosis in 1999 and have had many phlebotomies. I had both hips replaced and the right side was screwed up with a torn ligament that nothing can be done for. Fast forward to 2020, and I was seen at Mayo in July in the fibromyalgia center and pain clinic where I got a well placed injection in my upper back. This gave me pain relief in my arms for 3 weeks. That is one major area of fibro pain. Not I am back to square one. Also my hip surgeon at Mayo, who did all she could to try and fix what a Kalamazoo surgeon won't take ownership of, gave me an injection in the torn area. This is slowly beginning to cause me pain again. I had a good run on that of 4+ weeks. At the moment I hurt all over. My Mayo pain doc cannot prescribe medical marijuana, I asked. Two different States, so I need to find someone here. No idea who to turn to. I am on fluoxitine for depression. Have thought of acupuncture and a massage therapist but pricey and not covered by insurance. So I am using my tens unit a lot. Now that I have written a book about pain I will close this tomb by saying marijuana is medically and recreational legal but still feel like I would be breaking the law.

I am frustrated and at my whits end with my pain. i just don't feel like I can live the rest of my life like this. This isn't living, it's existing in hell.
Did Cymbalta work for you. Why did u stop.
