First step. Hand surgeon included me in the decision to have an injection of cortisone in the "heel" of my thumb to see if it will break up the pain in the thumb. Day one.

I went to my surgeon to get an injection in that "heel." My surgeon told me to just limit the activities that cause the pain. [Me: Doc, it hurts when I do that. Doc: don't do that!] He also gave me a wrist/thumb orthotic. It's a bit cumbersome. Google: Procare Quick-Fit W.T.O.
