I have had several Colonoscopies, I could manage the drinking prep part but the actual Colonoscopy is every time very painful. I am told they put sedation in the IV but I was everytime wide awake and the Biopsy one time was excruciating painful. Any help for that ? I dread the next one. I always mention it to the doc. beforehand but they reassure me that I will be fine.

Whoa! The sedative, Usually kicks in right away! Takes some time in Recovery Room! You shouldn’t be aware of the procedure
especially she many folks have polyps removed! Maybe you need to explore another venue to have your next Colonoscopy!
The prep is usually the part most patients dread! Wishing you a better Procedure next time!😫. Moo1

I have had the exact same thing happen with pain. And went through a year of having a colonoscopy every two months because of polyps. For some reason some doctors do no think we need to be totally sedated if we ask for it and we have been through it enough to know it is painful. I am dreading the next round. I am thinking of doctor shopping until I find one that will agree to sedation so I do not know what is going on!

That’s somewhat of an uncomfortable procedure. No reason to go through that. You should wake up in recovery and never know anything was ever done. (I’ve had 3) No question, time for a new GI Doc!
