Journaling - The Write Stuff For You?
Long ago –okay, for me, it was long ago!- it was common for a young person to keep a diary, a place to write down the heartaches and giggles of growing up, the trials and tribulations of school, friendships, sports and activities. Sometimes it was a locked book, so that we felt secure knowing our secret thought remained a secret.
How times have changed! While I no longer keep a classic diary, it is no less important for me to write down thoughts, ideas, and heaven-knows-what, on a regular basis. Nowadays, the common name is a “journal”, and seems to appeal to every segment of society. There are an abundance of ways to do this, and so many reasons why. Although I prefer longhand, many people use a computer, and there are any number of prompts/styles/methods.
Let’s explore this together!
Do you journal? What prompted you to start? What would you tell someone who wants to start?

@gingerw Hi Ginger,
By "bullet journal" do you mean a journal where you just record bullet points rather than writing out sentences? I'm not familiar with that term, but the concept seems quicker and more manageable, especially when fatigued.
@hopeful33250 Teresa, yes, along those lines. I think I might try a hybrid of my regular journaling and this, like @harriethodgson1 mentioned. When I googled the term, there seem to be pluses and minuses to it, from my standpoint.
I will be interested What you and others think?

Ginger,
What is bullet journaling?

I did google "bullet journaling" and found this website. It looks as if you can use it as a reminder, to-do list, or incorporate more details. Here is the link, https://www.oprahmag.com/life/work-money/a32155559/how-to-start-a-bullet-journal/
I think I will give it a try and use it for a to-do list, for "gratitude bullets" and also "personal goal bullets". What do you think? Anyone else want to try it?
I’m laughing, I guess I’ve been bullet journaling for years, and did not even know it.
I buy my bullet journal at staples end of every year.
Been doing this I guess for over 20 plus years.
Quicker and easier then the old imitation Leather dairy with the tiny keys.
Thanks for the website, it was an article in Oprah magazine.

@hopeful33250 Teresa, that was a good beginner's article! I think I will give it a try, certainly. But certainly will not give up my calendar book that stays in my purse. It will be fun to compare notes with anyone else who may join in trying this. I wonder if the comment about numbering the pages relates to putting dates ahead of time, plus a weekly rundown?

@hopeful33250 Teresa, I printed out the article, watched the videos. Got very enthused and went to look up a type of journal to use. And was able to tell myself that I don't need another blank journal, I have half a dozen already, pick one of those. Or simply start by continuing on in the one currently in use. This being Sunday, it's a good day to start, right? And, the first of the month is coming along, too.
It will be good to compare notes with others, on how this works for them, how they choose their format, since it is all so personal, and what they think of the process!

I've journaled sporadically all my adult life, especially when something troubles me. It does help to straighten out my thoughts. Also I wrote often to a penpal since we were 15. I'm now 71 and my dear friend just passed away. Guess I'll be journaling more regularly now.

Journaling is important tool for me. I do it almost daily, I find it healing. All those emotions written down, then I find I can let them go.
