Extreme fatigue and pain

Posted by rvickert @rvickert, Jun 9, 2020

I currently have stenosis in cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of my back with a pinched nerve root at L2. I have had 4 surgeries at the lumbar level involving all disks. The last was last year. I understand disc degeneration but this seems fast.

For the past 20 years, I have had severe fatigue, weakness and chronic pain which seems to worsen daily. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia many years ago and have a positive ANA, rheumatoid factor and see rate of 47. There are lots of tiny lumps that can be felt in my arms and larger ones in my legs and stomach area. These hurt and cause bruising when palpitated.
My children are exhibiting the same symptoms as I have at close to the same age of onset (ages 30 and 32) They complain of back pain as well. I have difficulty thinking often as if digging through a dense fog.

Is there any single illness that would exhibit these symptoms? Doctors run tests, determine nothing and say other symptoms are not in their area. I need help! Any suggestions are appreciated.

@chrisvan

I would also definitely suggest seeing an endocrinologist and demand to be tested for thyroid antibodies to determine if you have Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease!

Thanks chrisvan! My doctor has done T4 testing which was normal. Is this the same as you mentioned?

- Why aromatherapy is showing up in hospital surgical units https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/in-depth/why-aromatherapy-is-showing-up-in-hospital-surgical-units/art-20342126

Essential oils are surging in popularity, but what does the research say? Find out from Mayo Clinic experts how botanical extracts could help you. Also note the caution at the end of the article:
"How to use aromatherapy safely
When used the right way, most essential oils are safe. But it's important to remember that they are potent, and can't all be used in the same ways.

For example, an oil that is safe to use in a diffuser may not be safe to rub into your skin. In fact, some citrus oils can cause severe burns if you apply them directly to your skin and go into the sunlight.

It's also important to follow instructions and dilute oils correctly. For example, you might put a few drops into water for an aromatherapy diffuser or into a neutral "carrier" oil, such as vegetable, coconut or jojoba oil, before applying to skin.

As with any supplements or herb, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor about any essential oils you use."

@lioness and @rvickert, be careful about rubbing essential oils onto your skin. Be sure they are properly diluted or correctly used in creams or oils intended for the skin.

Im glad you sent this so rvickert can read it . I use almond oil to dilute but they have others also . @rvickert I wanted to share a book by an author who recovered from autoimmune disease. I have not read this book, but I have one of her other books about overcoming life's adversity and how your biography of experience and stressful events relates to disease later in life. She's an excellent medical writer and has been recognized in her field. Here's the book. https://donnajacksonnakazawa.com/autoimmune-epidemic/ From what I have read from her, there can be many factors that together add up to creating a disease in the body, and you have to be a detective and unravel the clues one by one. I did have some similar things in my blood work years ago, and was told I had incurable arthritis and fibromyalgia. I wasn't willing to accept that there couldn't be a way to prevent this problem, so I looked at food allergies that were contributing to my pain and did an elimination diet. I had developed a problem with wheat and gluten which caused inflammation and a leaky gut. That caused me to develop a lot of food allergies because I was exposed to partially digested foods being absorbed into my blood stream before I figured out this connection. That was a first step to feeling better. Another possibility is immune responses to hardware and implants from surgery. There is a lab in Chicago that tests blood for this and it probably is not covered by insurance. I did that test and it was around $500. The lab is https://www.orthopedicanalysis.com/. If there is an immune response from a surgical implant, you might want to consult the Environmental Health Center in Dallas as they have developed some treatment protocols. Here is their website. https://www.ehcd.com/

I know that my health was affected over many years because of old silver amalgam dental fillings that leached mercury, and old root canals done when I was young that failed after many years. Root canals contain cadmium, a heavy metal. After these were removed from my body my health improved. I saw a biological dentist who replaced the old fillings with safer materials, and after that the autoimmune thyroid condition that I have (Hashimotos) improved immediately. I recently had all the teeth with bad root canals removed in preparation for dental implants, and my lung function improved a lot. I do have allergies and asthma, but it is so much better and I'm not struggling to breath all the time due to excess phlegm which had been my norm for a few years. Sometimes treatments that have been an accepted practice are not completely safe, have side effects or they fail after a number of years.

My doctor is a functional medicine and environmental medicine doctor and this specialty looks for the causes of disease instead of treating the symptoms. There is a provider finder link for them at https://www.aaemonline.org/find.php

@jenniferhunter Thank you so much for your thorough response! I will check out the links you provided. My daughter has just been diagnosed with “cat scratch” which is apparently a strain of Lyme disease. Looking at the symptoms of chronic Lyme, it is worth investigating for myself. However I can’t figure out how to do this since it would be more than 20 years into the disease. Again. Thanks!
