Neuropathy in feet and limited toe movement?

Posted by plbelanger @plbelanger, May 15, 2020

Just curious as I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in the beginning of this year but have yet to see a neurologist about it (postponed till end of June due to COVID19). I have constant pins and needles, numbness, pain in both my feet. It's gotten worse over the years (been dealing with it for ~10 years and never went to a doctor about it due to lack of insurance) and now I can no longer even bend my big toes at all and even bending any other toes are rather difficult. Just wondering is this common...anyone else have this?

@jimhd Did you take it in pill form at home? God in heaven, you never stop an anti depressant drug cold turkey. Horrific! You have endured way too much, Jim!!!! Lori

Okay, Jim, so I get that you have 3 hours to "kill" (hope your wife has a successful surgery by the way) but I missed the part about precisely where you get a day off? Man, I am RETIRED. I take days off in bunches! Granted, I do DO things. But they are things I want to do and like to do mostly, and that includes caregiving, working for the Red Cross one day a week, and doing household chores, etc. But if I had the pain you deal with on a daily basis, I think I'd take a true break-day, or many break-days if possible. Play a little FreeCell or something. Jim, I find some of the things you mention about your life, both past and present, a bit awe inspiring. But sometimes you've got to stop and actually SMELL the roses, not just plant them and weed around them and put a bag of mulch on them, etc. etc. etc.

(I am just ribbing you). Have a great day. Or at least a less busy one. 😉

@jesfactsmon After I dropped her off - I wasn't allowed to go in - I had a leisurely pancake breakfast I went back to the surgery center and parked in the shade and read and walked Sadie. Now having pie and waiting for the pharmacy to fill her norco prescription. Then going home to tend for her.

@artscaping Hi again, the drug may be clomipramine. Not sure, but this comes to mind. Let me know if you want more research. Lori

Hi @lorirenee, thank you so much for the research. I think I remember when this was given to dogs on New Years because of the fireworks. I see it still has a pet reference. The concept of getting your mind to jump around so it doesn't get stuck on an intrusive thought. Is that what you think the goal is here? I am sharing your post and thoughts about OCD today. She has a psychiatrist also who does her meds. If I could contribute one idea to her, remember one medication for her, take away one traumatic incident from her, I would do almost anything.
Be safe and protected.

@artscaping Hi Chris, What clomopramine did for me, was help my thoughts ramble around from thought to NEW thought. When OCD is bad, you can get stuck in repetitive, useless thoughts. It's almost like when a record gets stuck on the record player, and keeps repeating a phrase, over and over and over. When the brain constantly does that, it can be a nightmare. Clomipramine just seemed to help me jump from thought to thought, like a normal brain! I swear, it was like my brain would get stuck without it. It literally helped me almost over night. I also thought writing down the obsessions, over and over, made them lose power and significance. I would write something down 100 times, I swear. It got utterly stupid. Doing this really helped. It helped me not take the thought seriously. Also, learning to recognize the things that are obsessions in my head, and literally, just let them sail right through, helped tremendously. My doctor said the content of OCD thoughts are insignificant, and could be about anything. They literally, are not real. They are from a faulty brain that is not working right. I literally, would just think them, and not give them any credence, or attention. But I do think the thing that helped most was the medication. Now I am totally off the stuff, and doing fine. Let me know if you need more info. Love to you, Lori

@jimhd Hi Jim, For the life of me, I can't find why your wife had surgery here. I certainly hope that she is ok! There is natural recuperation, but I hope she will be better afterwards! Thinking of you, Jim! Best of luck, Lori Renee

@lorirenee1 Marilyn had a cyst on the back of her hand that was becoming uncomfortable, and she didn't like the way it looked. She had an unremarkable surgery, and is going to take it easy for a few days. I'll be doing the cooking, with her supervision, of course. Supper today was Papa Murphy's Pizza with a bowl of fresh fruit. We love the months when we can augment the garden at the farmers markets.

Jeez Jim did you have to mention pie!!
What kind did you have? I haven’t had any kind of pie in ages and that sounds so good. I have to go to the store today and guess what I’ll probably buy now, a pie or two or three. If I go to Costco they have good pies and big too, my favorite kind BIG. So if I gain weight Jim it’s all your fault!!!

Hey Jake! @jakedduck1 -- If you are going to Costco, walk right by the pies and head down to the snacks aisle. They have a great healthy trail mix packed in small individual bags. Great for snacks and keep you away from the bad stuff (most of the time for me 🙂 ).
