Hello @cmartinjr. I've had peripheral neuropathy going on 4 years. Thanks for weighing in on your case. I discontinued Cymbalta in January as I felt it impaired my memory and I did not feel a benefit for my pain. I continue Lyrica and think it helps although I dont feel any immediate "in my face" help from it. I have used the protocol for 7 months. I'm a believer in most of the components such as ALA, Acetyl L Carnatine, magnesium, Omega 3 and my own add ins like B12, Coq10 and turmeric. The Protocol is expensive and I contemplate discontinuing some of it but, feel so desperate for help on most occasions that I hesitate. I'm an opiod and medical marijuana user for chronic pain and have found no other alternatives to help my pain, sadly.
It was nice to meet you and thanks again for your input. I wish you well and keep on riding as long as you can! Enjoy the day.

Great Picture with horse ... I am former senior equestrian.
I am having a terrible time with neuropathic/neuralgia pain of right superficial abdomen adjacent to umbilical area and going laterally. I went through this 10 years ago on the left side. I tried Lyrica and gabapentin ... in a fog. I tried amitriptyline ... in a fog... not much help if at all. I am using lidocaine 5% patches bid and ice packs. What is the difference in ALA and R-ALA. I am under care of Endo MD for diabetes, Primary care MD, and whole regimen of doctors. Just seeking comments and ideas.
Hello cmartinjr, I came across your old Mayo Clinic post from 2020 and am wondering how you are doing now and if you found any benefit from the supplements you continued after the Protocol 525. I am blessed that the neuropathy I have experienced in the past is mild and intermittent but have recently been working with a naturopathic physician who feels heavy metal toxicity can cause these neuropathies. Hair mineral analysis from two different doctors and labs performed one year apart show I have aluminum toxicity (which I understand is not that uncommon today with aluminum in antiperspirants, baking soda etc) and so I am using natural supplements to try and pull the aluminum out of my body slowly as I am sensitive to side effects. Since I have always been sensitive to medicines I have found it necessary to look to alternative medicine for help. I hope you are well and I’m sure there will be others on the forum who would be interested in hearing your experiences with those supplements after 3 years. God bless.
@cmartinjr, please keep us informed as I identify with your experience and would love to be able to get off the gabapentin but not unless I find something better as it does take the pain away. I do not take cymbalta but do take the other supplements you mentioned. I wish you luck with your research. P.S. Nice picture, glad you can get out to enjoy it.
