Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

I love these wlld flowers in the woods between my house and my neighbors. If they weren't on his side of the property line, I would be digging up a few to transplant them next to the side of the road where it's too steep to mow. I think these are Scarlet Bee Balm plants. I think they would be nice along with some transplanted Daylilies.

John- They are bee balm. They grow like weeds too. Ask your neighbor for a few!

I love these wlld flowers in the woods between my house and my neighbors. @johnbishop - You nailed it! But no need to dig & transplant - simply watch for seed heads in late August and when they begin to dry, take a few & scatter the seeds. When they emerge in spring, you'll know they are bee balm by the square stems and faint mint smell of the young leaves. If you see any purple/lavender among the lot, grab a few of those too - wild bergamot - the scent in Earl Grey tea.

Thanks Sue @sueinmn! I'm hoping for some cooler weather in the next few weeks so I can move some of the daylilies that will be disrupted when we have some landscaping done and a new wider sidewalk in the front of our house. Much easier to scatter seeds. Question - if planted with daylilies will the bee balm take over or will both survive? I love the colors they would both bring along side the road.

@zeiracorp, I have a Canon SX-50 HS which I bought specifically for the 200x optical zoom. I'm not really a photographer but I do enjoy taking photos from my window with the camera using the zoom. I didn't use the zoom much for this photo of my neighbor's cat having a face off with my cat. Funny story is that the cat outside is now one of mine as my neighbor's son was allergic to cats and they couldn't keep her and asked if I would take her.

Thanks Sue @sueinmn! @johnbishop John - Both should be fine. The beauty of bee balm is that it is VERY easy to pull out if it comes up where you don't want it. But it looks really nice intermixed with daylilies, black-eyed Susan's and/ or coneflowers.
