I love these wlld flowers in the woods between my house and my neighbors. If they weren't on his side of the property line, I would be digging up a few to transplant them next to the side of the road where it's too steep to mow. I think these are Scarlet Bee Balm plants. I think they would be nice along with some transplanted Daylilies.

John- They are bee balm. They grow like weeds too. Ask your neighbor for a few!

@johnbishop - You nailed it! But no need to dig & transplant - simply watch for seed heads in late August and when they begin to dry, take a few & scatter the seeds. When they emerge in spring, you'll know they are bee balm by the square stems and faint mint smell of the young leaves. If you see any purple/lavender among the lot, grab a few of those too - wild bergamot - the scent in Earl Grey tea.

@johnbishop, John, these are beautiful. I bought several of the purple bee balm which are more common here. Was happy that they came back this spring since I completely curtailed my nursery shopping.
