@johnbishop @lioness Your exchange made me smile! It's amazing what different names there are for common plants and flowers. Growing up in the city, we had no ditches, but we had alleys. Common orange daylilies were everywhere - but mostly on the back sides of garages, so they were known to us as "alley flowers." On the other hand, what gardeners call moss roses, or portulaca, were called "curb flowers" because they were one of the only things that could grow in the salt-laden, compacted soil in the boulevard strip between sidewalk and street - where even crabgrass struggled.

Linda you are correct! Ditch Lily is what it's commonly called here but it is the Day Lilly.
