Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

Hi, Thanks for the welcome. We live in a sweet little town in WI. Believe it or not we are in the process of building a house in the midst of all of this. That is not especially easy, although I am grateful to be able to do it.

Building a house in good times is a undertaking. Keep me up on your adventures. I built a house in my early thirties and if it could happen, it did. Are you and your husband doing some of the building or prep work yourselves??? My husband and I took a set of Sunset magazines and a blueprint of a vacation I liked and went for it. We made it through. In retrospect, I am really happy I did it and learned a lot about what and what not to do when building a house🤣🤣🤣

Bet you learned a thing or two about your husband too. My ex husband taught me how to drive and we almost got a divorce 😂

@mayofeb2020 My husband is a back seat driver, so building house was a step up. 😉

Good Afternoon creative wanderers. That's what I call your contributions to this daily photo journey. It has been a joy every morning to see how the day was going to start, what we might discover and what has inspired you to get ready for your turn.

So....today is my turn. This photo was and is an inspiration for me. As a Freshman English student, I was asked to research and report on the pilgrims who came to America on the Mayflower. Somehow I ran smack into the role that whales played in our ancestor's lives. As a result, whenever I have a chance, I go whale watching. I have whale watched from a large catamaran across the shipping lanes, and a floatplane trip in Hawaii. Except when a huge breach off of the boat in Maui wiped out my camera, I have always had pictures.

For this Friday Harbor adventure, I have only one picture. It is right here. Why this one? Someone will know.

All I know is that I was too busy following Pod J intersecting with Pod L. An orphan attached itself to a new mother and our underwater microphones recorded the joyous celebration. When we landed a couple of hours later, the oceanography staff from Washington University told us we would never have to go whale watching again, we had just seen the best in the world.

So....what is this only picture? Why and when and who? Please let me know what you think.

Be healthy and whole today.
Chris

@artscaping It is a smallish boat, with cabin, on the lookout for whales, and breaching. The captain is standing up, to look past the couple setting on foredeck, "steering" vessel with his foot. Cannot give you a timestamp. Do i win a prize?
