Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

Cats are simply not into social distancing, no matter who says so😸

My 3 are not friends and enforce their social distancing except the new comer who is the kid on the block. My oldest cat around 15 years or so rules and she doesn't have claws but she has a really mean hiss. The other two have claws. The second in command doesn't like anyone. She will sit on my lap once in awhile and let me pet her but she is one that can purr for you and turn around and nip you in a heartbeat when she is done letting you pet her. The new kid on the block is what I call rolling thunder. She chase number 2 all around the house and looks for opportunities for sneak attacks. The old one stays upstairs in her house in the entry closet all day and sleeps with us downstairs at night. The new kid has the downstairs for her domain and number 2 has the upstairs living room for her primary domain. Of course they all come around at feeding time in the early morning and late afternoon. They each have a different location for feeding to keep the peace.

@merpreb -- I like black cats too. It's hard to believe how different cultures used to treat them.

@johnbishop What a unique cat-community, John! Some are passive-aggressive and some just don't care. Cats are funny😸

@hopeful33250; @johnbishop- My 5 lb cat is the runt of the litter. SHe's very loving but hates to be picked up. Drives me nuts and she's not a good eater.

Bloom of the day - Bi-color Nopal (Prickly Pear) Cactus blossom. I tried to get an overall picture of the plant to demonstrate what a show it is giving, there are dozens of open flowers, but each flower is only about 3" across, and the plant is about 8'X8' - so when you zoom out, it just looks like a lot of orange dots on a big green cactus. Each bloom lasts one day, and when the sun comes out this afternoon, the plant will be alive with bees foraging for pollen. This particular plant will probably produce about 1000 blooms in the next 2-3 weeks. All of the little "knobs" below the flower are small buds.

Love hearing about the personalities and antics of your three, John. Neighbor called me over to see what i thought was a new plant. Nope, a wee, orange and white, 1 pound bit of fluff. People Know a sucker when they live near one, right? Way too old but did it anyway...remember those multiple, middle of the night feedings until "real" food is introduced?? Yosimite Sam became the neighborhood favorite. He never met a stranger he wouldn't approach! At 4 mos, a new tuxedo baby wandered over and Y.S. immediately claimed her. There were fastest friends...Y.S. even thought He was Her mom...they cuddled and played together famously. Unlike, Y.S., Precious runs like lightening at the sound of a strange human voice. Best friends who Know she lives here 24/7 inside the house have Yet to see her...even though they are in charge of feeding when I'm away. Oh, the joy our furry friends bring us.
