Why do numbers vary with prediabetes
A1C three months ago from doc's lab was 5.9, I tested last month and it was 5.2. today is 5.8. Can anyone help me understand why numbers would vary? I understand that glucose attaches to hemoglobin and that's how a1c is measured and am trying and hoping to get these numbers down. I have increased my exercise....currently doing yoga and recumbent bike for 30 minutes day up to 6 miles. Fairly active with walking on property and doing yardwork. Diet not too bad, but eat too much sugar. Anything else I can do?

You need to eat what you ate that made the A1C 5,2. If you think you ate too much sugar, then cut that down. You are doing enough exercise and I would love to have those numbers. Just remember, you are what you eat. I don't miss the sugar if I eat a variety of foods that I really enjoy. When I think of the limited menu my mother cooked, I know that I missed enjoying a lot of healthy food out there in my youth. I also believe that eating regularly by the clock makes my body operate better and with less stress. I suppose there are foods out there that my body doesn't like and others that really help me. My body works better with high fiber foods, and I am not an old lady who thinks I should eat pudding and Jello for an easy diet. Actually, I prefer crunchy foods so long as I chew well and get the food ready to be digested. Relax, and enjoy your success. Dorisena
I admit I have a sugar problem. It's difficult to curb. I think I am going to try and get into a regular routine with meals. My husband loves to carb load at dinner and also have dinner late. I need to go back to having an early dinner and let him eat a late dinner by himself. I find that if I eat late, I am more sluggish and I think that is contributing to higher A1C. Have two months before next doc visit, so I have to get to work. Thanks Dorisena, sounds like you have a good plan going!
