I was taking care of my mom for a few months while still working a F/T job and it was EXTREMELY difficult. But I love my mom and did what I had to do. But, I knew I needed more help once she wandered outside while I was at work!!!!! And all the home nursing places that I checked out was too expensive for my pockets and the cheaper nursing places (meaning the not for profit type of places) couldn't stay the length of time that I needed them to stay while I was at work. It was a LONGGGGGGGGG process but I applied for financial aid for my mom so she could get placed into a memory care center. Without financial aid it would have cost over $5,000 per month.

@dbrhdarby Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. The process of getting your mother to a higher level of care sounds extremely difficult and stressful for you. It is extremely fortunate that you were eventually able to apply for financial aid for memory care.

It sounds like you have a lot of information to share. @fwentz has also provided members with helpful resources about caretaking for loved ones with dementia.

May I ask how you found out about the financial aid and what organization the aids comes from?
