Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@fiesty76 Isn't it so encouraging this year .I,ll finally be able to see in person my grandson Feed them extra for me ,can't do that where I live
@artist01, Just catching up and smiling at the carrot vs candy bar dangle as enticement for @jakedduck1.
Pretty sure all of us are royally celebrating with you, Laurie, on your thrilling return to a more active lifestyle. N o t h i n g feels better than feeling better again after a long illness or incapacitation! Whether we measure our progress in inches or miles, just acknowledging our improvements can be hearty medicine in itself and serve as encouragement to others as well!
Wishing that the coming of Spring will bring happier and healthier days for all.
Hi, @suerc, The great thing about this group is that there is no competition just a willingness to do whatever we can to build strength and endurance.
While I didn't break my back as you painfully did, I know that when mine goes out due to an earlier injury, everything pretty much stops until I can stand tall again or sit for more than a few minutes at a time.
While there is no longer stamina for the long hikes I once enjoyed, I look forward now to trying for three scheduled walks each week. Some walks are longer; others much shorter but making the effort helps me feel like I am doing something nice for myself. Welcome aboard!
@fiesty76 It's the trying that counts With my back problems I can't walk much at all anymore but do Tai Chi ,Lohhan patting especially is healthy
@fiesty76
When should I expect to receive my package?
Your only letting me off the hook once? you're tough!
“I'm keeping a list.”
That's gonna be a mighty long list.
I think I'll go visit my ducky friends too. I have to go 15 miles. A bit far to walk.
Jake

@fiesty76 You are so right,
n o t h I n g feels better than regaining even a bit of our former health, Fiesty!
@jakedduck1 You can always ride your bike those 15 miles will fly by
@becsbuddy I had a nerve block yesterday so resting several days then will see if I can walk further
@lioness Be sure to take it easy at first! Hope the nerve block helps ease your symptoms. Take care. Laurie
