@rambo77 Sounds like you’ve already started a walking program! Great! It’s often said that we should not walk so fast that tripping becomes more likely and just fast enough that we can carry on a conversation while walking. Do you have a walking buddy or music to listen to?
I put the link to Mayo’s 12 week walking schedule just below so you can follow it, if you wish.
I just love being outdoors and walking, even in the neighborhood! What is your favorite place to walk?

As all of our friends here have said, moving regularly is the goal - it's not a set amount of distance or speed. As Connect members we all have our "issues" and the purpose of walking is to do as well as possible while we deal with them.
When I started walking about 3 years ago, during a serious lung infection, my initial goal was to make it to my corner and back - even failed that some bad days. Now I can go for 5 or more miles or 2- 2 1/2 hours, and even "jog" with my little grands.
@rambo77 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! In my experience, as a 68 yr old female, I set a goal to walk as many days a week as feels comfortable, for whatever distance suits me that day [remember, you're "half-way home!" at any point], at the speed that allows you to still carry on a conversation. In other words, for me, it is getting out and walking. Or, staying inside and walking around house/ apartment if the weather is too inclement. Each person is different, and I don't think there should be a hard-and-fast set of rules. That may lead to negative self-talk and chiding yourself for not keeping up with Billy Jones next door.
If you want, keep a log of when/where/weather, so you can see your progress. Challenge yourself if you want, but don't be too hard on yourself if you miss that target. Where is your favorite place to walk, now? Do you have a companion pet or friend who goes with you?
