Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Love it!!!
@Erinmfs & @sueinmn, While I didn't have the training you both experienced, I can now laughingly confess that for over a decade, before retiring, I was the Technology Director for Federal Programs for our school district. At that time, I really enjoyed the challenge of new computer advancements and staying current.
Since retirement, I am like you Sue and have become woefully "behind" with technology. I make no apologies though because what I have serves me and at this stage, if something doesn't directly simply or improve the daily quality of my life, I choose to stay with what I have. Remember when computers were going to reduce paper production, and other technologies would streamline our lives?????
Hah! My daughter, a school nurse, has spent her pandemic work-at-home time with a team of other nurses writing a plan to simplify the use of the computers in their jobs - they have to deal with 3 programs that don't interface - the school district, the Fed-state mandated Special Ed system, and the HIPAA compliant medical records. Sometimes the same entry must be made (manually) in all 3! They are making calculations to show the money that will be saved by a one-time technology expenditure now - I'm helping them.
Sue
Thursday after the windy blizzard--noon and still 4 below zero. Sunny but with some light wind. A very MN-nice neighbor got his snow blower out and did lots of the sidewalks including my 1/2-block long one. I was really dreading having to clear that. Now I need to shovel the sidewalk to my front door for the mail carrier. I was able to put out some critter food on my back step this AM which the snow bypassed although my screen door had frozen shut. Not too hard to get it open. Our winter had been very gentle before this. Thanks for the hot tea toast! At least the power stayed on last night.
I used to have a pull cart years ago. I generally use a backpack here but a cart would be great. I just procrastinate on so many things.
Though pulling a cart in snow isn’t easy! 😳
True--I think I'll wait until spring to think about a cart.
Sounds like a mind bending effort, @sueinmn, and I shudder at the many hours involved!
I like grocery delivery in the cold, but for an adventure, I use a pull cart. A full pull cart is just enough food for me, otherwise my purchases goto waste.
I walk to the grocery store for exercise. I do have a car and when I need heavy stuff like cat litter, I'll drive. I'll buy several containers at once.
