Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Right now it is in the low 40’s in southern WI but wind is picking up. Some sort of storm tomorrow. How much, who knows. Rain, sleet, snow, take your pick. Predicting 7 degrees by tomorrow, so guess the party is almost over!

Minnesota party is nearly over here, too. Our winds are whipping!! Predicting 1 degree here tomorrow. My 2+ mile walk this morning in 45 degrees was perfect!!

The winds are really wild here, too. We get to go up to 4 degrees tomorrow. Maybe it's because we're near the Lake. Congrats on getting your walk in! I did walk down the hill 6 blocks yesterday for a few groceries since I knew this was going to hit the fan. I get double points for carting bags of groceries back up the hill!

I have to talk about these shoes of mine, they connect to a smartphone app, and count your steps each day. Looks like this. I really enjoy seeing my activity each day. They are Allegria shoes, I saw Allegria shoes in Rochester. I found these shoes on the Allegria website. They are fun for walking!

Greetings from Duluth! It started out at 30 degrees when I got up and right on time we got blowing snow. It's wild out now and everyone is hunkered down. The temperature is steadily dropping. Minus 3 degrees is predicted for tonight. It had to happen eventually. Before this, the winter has been pretty mild.

Love it when Mn people say “hunkered down” because that’s exactly what we do. Be careful and stay safe!

Yup, we're hunkering, all right! The wind has been scary all afternoon. I discovered mail was delivered today! Nothing is moving out there and I assumed we'd get caught up on mail tomorrow. I hope the mail carriers gave up when it got so bad. The wind has blown snow under my front porch screen door (onto my mail). Remind me to get a small wood stove installed before next winter--just for backup! Stop the wind--I've had enough!!!

It has been amazingly mild here in Wisconsin! I’ve been delighted to take advantage of it with late season garden projects and walks so often! Not looking forward to the cold coming but hey, it’s almost January!

Yes, you do! Do you use a backpack or have a pull-cart like I see all over Europe?

@wisco50, A few mild, windless days here has had me raking more leaves. However, a trip to pick up a prescription yesterday caught me driving home in a huge wind storm that brought darkness from the brown dirt that made driving difficult. Had to chuckle that getting home was one time when wearing the mask had really come in handier than usual!

@jude07, "Hunkered Down" is one of my favorite expressions and when others have asked where I came up with it, I had no idea. Lived in Duluth for 2 years so now maybe I have the answer. Big Smiles!!!!!
