Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Great work, keep it going, two fold a walk and no sweets - yahoo!

Good luck making it to 104. But if you keep eating like you do you’ll be lucky to make it six more months. Although maybe you will make your goal, maybe you’re 103+ now. But then again being a woman maybe you’re only 29.

I baked a coffee cake last pm and I live alone. No one to share it with because of Covid, somI’m going to have to walk a LOT? 😳
@jude07
Thank you but just think how far I could’ve gone if I had a good supply of candy on me.
Jake
Oh, dark chocolate, YESYESYES!
@wisco50
I’m afraid you don’t live in California?
If you can’t eat it all feel free to mail it to me, I’d be happy to take any extra off your hands. I hope you realize I’m only thinking of you, I’d hate to have you gain any weight.
Take care,
Jake
Ps, Dark chocolate, YUCK, ICK & GAG!!!!!!!!!!!
Willpower and energy over sweets!
Haha, Jake, it’s very yummy - sour cream coffee cake, got the recipe from a nursing school classmate’s mother, I’m 70, so guessing it’s a really old recipe! What a shame that it would be stale by the time it got to you! Thanks for being concerned about my weight, though, LOL!
Dark chocolate, funny story: my dad was VERY fond of desserts, sweets, chocolate and nuts. He would almost always have a box of chocolates next to him. I’d sit on his lap when I was younger and share. But he would demolish the milk chocolate ones so I learned to eat the dark ones. <G> I’ve honed it into a fine art and appreciation for quality dark chocolate. Yum. Even as a young kid, I even began nibbling on baker’s chocolate! 😮

I remember the snow days in NY and dressing the kids to go out while all the time asking “are you sure you don’t have to go to the bathroom?” They walked like mummies with all those clothes on.
This morning I woke up to 60 gorgeous degrees and low humidity temps and am heading out the door for a walk now. Long sleeves today here in Florida...yay!

What a dear story about your Dad and you and the box of chocolates! My Dad was a sweets lover, too, and and of course chocolate lover. My Mom would always pack him a Herseys bar with almonds for his treat. When he would stay with me to attend his appointments at Mayo and he would get a good report, we would celebrate by going somewhere to eat dessert before coming back to the house for our meal. His motto was “eat backwards” who said dessert had to be eaten last! I think after all this chatter about sweets, I need to get a long walk in today. The sun is gorgeous even though the Mn temps are chilly!
Have a good day, all, be safe.
