@jude07, Thanks for your supportive response! The dental appointment went well and the crowned troublesome tooth was extracted. However it looked as though part of the root remained. Another appt next week to discuss my "choices"...not suggested but probably a dental surgeon in my future. A difficult extraction but because my excellent dentist prioritizes making the patient as comfortable and pain free as possible both during and after procedures, the printed after care instruction sheet was unneeded. With the exceptions of applying gauze she'd sent home and ice packs initially, there was no un-numbing discomfort, prolonged bleeding or swelling which often occurs. I count myself fortunate in the extreme to have her and to be rid of the pain.

@feisty76 My dentist sent me to an Oral surgeon to pull my tooth. I'm glad you had a good experience, but I still think she should have gotten you in sooner when you had an infected tooth. A root should not have remained and I would recommend you go to an Oral Surgeon to get it out. My last bad tooth I had extracted by an Oral Surgeon and since it was a big tooth had to cut it in half, but all of it came out. Yours might have been a smaller tooth. I had a great experience too, since the I knew the surgeon. He has done many of my implants. I know how painful it can be to have a bad tooth. We have bad teeth in our family. Even though we drank milk living on a farm. All of my family, dad, mom, and 2 sisters have false teeth. My oldest sister who is 80 her gums have receded where she has a hard time keeping them in plus eating is a problem.

@fiesty76. I'm glad your dental appointment went well. I grew up with a dental phobia due to some terrible experiences when I was a child. I always warn my dentist about that. I had a very good dentist who retired, now my new dentist whom I've only seen once seems to be very compassionate. I really need to see her again but I think I'll wait a little while. I had a root canal through a crown once and this specialist was so good I never felt a thing. He's very expensive but worth every penny.

Such a smart and person centered surgeon, nice that your experience was a positive one.
