Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@contentandwell I know I am lucky living in Maui and yes it is very expensive. They don't give residents many breaks. Costco is always our best bet..
I do miss my family and my one teenage granddaughter. She texted me great murals that she has painted on her bedroom wall. She is such a talented artist and I had a lot of joy looking at those.
But on the other side, I was really alarmed today to read we have 44 new cases of the virus on Maui in the last couple of days and all from health workers at the local hospital. This makes me wonder if they have been trained how to use the PPE . It involves 195 people who could be infected including lots of regular patients who are now home and think how many they could have infected. I feel very frustrated by this news. Until 2 days ago we had about 23 active cases. What do you think about that?
44 new cases of cov19 is quite a few for the small island of beautiful Maui. The virus is everyplace. All you can do is stay home, and if going out wear as much protection as you can.
The mainland California is loaded with the virus. Almost 10,000 cases just in Los Angeles.
County.
Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands are a tourist meca during spring, and summer time, just think how high it would be if the tourist bring more cov19 into the area.
Take care
@lioness: I Like chocolate cookies...Wanna' share??? vbg I wake up thinking about what I'll make for dinner each night...what excitement here. lol
Of course we are following all the lock down rules and we don't even go to the store.
My point was that 44 new cases over 2 days was a huge jump from our normal of one or two extra cases each day. The fact that they are all health workers from the hospital tells me that something is wrong and now all the patients that were not Covid 19 patients have been put at risk, that is 195 people plus their family members. this will create a much bigger problem on our small island than we were enduring. We have all been staying home and the hospital has been spreading it. Not good.
Hi, @ Pollyanne, I remember so fondly my visits to your lovely, enticing islands.
I don't think it is the lack of training in how to wear the masks but rather the severe lack of appropriate gear available. My heart goes out to all of the hospital employees and first responders who are continuing to go to work each day bravely confronting this invisible, so easily spread virus without the appropriate and much overused protective gear. Daily reports from all over the country site that these valiant warriors are having to reuse gear for too many days. They report the dire need for more and yet they risk their lives daily and those of their loved ones to save others. Many of the masks are for one time use and both they and the N1? that are available are being worn throughout the day and are very uncomfortable.
I have been writing to my state and federal legislators begging them to up the quantity and distribution of the desperately needed gear for those risking their lives for the rest of us. They may not respond or heed my requests but it is one tiny effort I and others can make to be heard. Only our top elected leadership can garner the help and production needed to meet this growing and spreading demand. This is not a political situation; this is a life endangering situation for us all.
And yes, the number of cases in my less populated area is growing exponentially day-by-day. And yet there are Americans failing to heed the recommendations of the infectious health experts by continuing to go out and congregate in groups. Do they think they are immune?
I have to change my diet. I not only have low potassium, but also low albumin. I’m making chicken enchiladas today so I better load them up with chicken and make a frozen coffee and chocolate milk shake. That should increase my proteins. For more potassium, I will make a big mound of guacamole.
Well so much for that milkshake. My husband made me a margarita. I will make that milkshake later this afternoon. I need the protein.
Margarita? It's five o'clock somewhere!! Cheers!
It was noon at my house. Now it’s time for me to lie down for a couple of hours 😌
@darlingdoll, All leftovers accepted here...no questions asked!!! Yummie!
