Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Thank you for your friendliness to your neighbor @sueinmn ! And her spirits have improved—you go, girl!
@pollyanne If you have Amazon Prime they have Whole Food Im going to order next time I think. I didn't hear Pope Francis but this morning I heard this from Dr. Stanley The longer you focus on fear ,the more you will be afraid.
@lioness Thanks for the Amazon Prime tip. I will check that out. Also that's a good quote. It's like the greatest fear is fear itself.
Pope Francis's 'sermon' was quite long and he uses parallels from the New Testament and it is a very thoughtful message. Typical of him. My catholic friend is sure he will be a saint. If anyone is interested I expect you could find it online somewhere. It's worth reading. He just gave the address yesterday.
Contentandwell, so when you told your son, did he believe you???? LOL
@contentandwell
Good afternoon,
“I told him when he became an adult we did not become children.”
I love that quote, how did he react?
Jake
That was funny!
@pollyann.. Actually I live in the city of Irvine, each neighborhood is called a 'village'. My neighborhood is Northwood. when I first move here many decades ago, there were farmland and orange trees everywhere, when the orange blossoms bloom, the fragrance is intoxicating. Those were the good old days. What used to be a 2 lanes dirt road is now 6 lanes thorough fare.... No more orange groves anymore 😢 The packing plant went away. We still have farmers markets (not lately) but they are not local farmers.
For those of you needlessly suffering from the quarantine, I ...
Heard some advice on the radio last night, it said to have inner peace, that we should always finish things we start, and we all could use more calm in our lives. I looked through my house to find things that I'd started and hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Whiskey, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiumun srciptuns, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how feckin fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner piss. An telum u luvum. And two al bee hapee wilst in de instalation.
@starko Luv it I just got Kaluha will halg sum
@mayofeb2020 The same is happening everywhere unfortunately. I think it was Jane Goodall who said this earth can support 400 billion people and we have 800 billion. I might not be accurate with these figures but it definitely was double. Is it surprising that we have viruses? My Northwood has also completely changed from when it was a country village to the present day. And look at Maui and how that has developed in the last 25 years. That's what makes it more vital to work at staying healthy with our diet and our exercising . I think everyone here is doing the best they can. Lets keep going and I enjoyed the spicy bean soup.
