Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Wow! You are inspiring! Yesterday the sun was out and I had some good walking done. Today the sun went into hiding and it's cold and damp. Rain on its way. I will have to put some warm clothes on and go for a walk soon. I only have a small patio, it would only 5 minutes for me to sweep it. I love gardening but now I have succulents...save water and hardly need any fussing. I do have a couple of plumeria from Hawaii but now they are dormant. My one pot of clivia did bloom which brightens up my day.
I walk on the days that the sun is out.
@gingerw
Good gracious Ginger since your so energetic and into this walking blarney you can take a walk for me.
Happy trails,
Jake
@gingerw
I had the yard decision too.
One phone call took care of that.
Have fun,
Jake
Ginger, what you did was exercise, just a different form. Congratulations on a job well done!
@mayofeb2020 Unfortunately I lost most of my succulents when they moved up here. They couldn't take the sudden change in weather and they froze. However the cactus are doing well! I do have daffodils and crocus that have come up and some little peonies. On my walk I am thrilled to see all the new green things waking up.

@gingerw As @1065408 commented, that certainly was exercise, probably more than if you had walked. My husband and I took a walk again today, the temperature was around 52° so it was pleasant. I felt I needed more exercise though so I did some exercises that I had gotten during my last PT sessions that are good for core and balance, and then did 20 minutes on my bike tonight. I hope tomorrow my bursitis doesn't flare. If it doesn't I will know that I can do at least that much.
