What Do We Do When We Cannot Change Our Loved Ones?

Hello everyone. I am asking a question about all those family members that we all seem to have. Those annoying, wierd, dysfunctionsl, boring, ridiculous relatives that share our DNA and our lives. On the other hand, at times we choose not to include these people in our family gatherings. And regret our decision later.So we invite them over again. Only to be disappointed. Again.

What do we do? On every hand, we are bombarded with tv and movie displays of joyous family gatherings. Commercials and even lessons for schoolchildren promote the idea that we are family, by golly. And family not only sticks together, they get together. Frequently. So what are we good citizens of this ever-changing world expected to do?

I have a few ideas on this. Bear with me. I promise not to make you feel guilty, whatever you decide to do for your particular clan.

So join me in this holiday quest for truth regarding our in-laws and outlaws. I hope you will find a chuckle here and there. Maybe a good story, or a verse from a well read book, to help you on your way .

@imallears , we are safe and sound. Several lives were lost, however in the rural county just North of us. No details yet, but they most likely were caught unprepared at how quickly the storm developed. At three thirty pm yesterday my daughter was texting us, wanting us to go to the store and look around. I told her we were about to be under a tornado warning. She said no, it's fine.

Within the hour, the local meteorologist had our area plastered all over the tv screen. Nonstop directions as to where the storm would land, and when. Amazingly accurate.

Tomorrow I have my left eye worked on to remove a cataract. 11:45am, to be exact. It will be good to be able to see clearly again. It is an outpatient procedure, with my husband being my driver. I will have to wear these super dark glasses for a week. Two different kinds of eye drops.

Hope to "see" you again very soon......

@mamacita- I am so glad, and relieved that you are safe. RI drivers are horrible so I have no idea what the death toll will be here. Terrible outside- rain, sleet, snow.

@imallears , we are safe and sound. Several lives were lost, however in the rural county just North of us. Alabama was all over the news here in Florida and they mentioned how accurate the predictions were. So glad you are safe.
Good luck with the cataract surgery...I had both of mine done 10 years ago and remember the routine afterwards. A decision I never regretted. It’s a good thing the surgery was scheduled when it was or they would have had to postpone it.

Just got back from my eye Dr .for 2nd of 4 monthly injections for macular edema.....no biggie...numb eyeball maybe a slight headache when the numbness wears off. My upper and lower eyelashes still had the sticky jelly like antibiotic on them so the assistant didn’t do that great a job of getting it all off. I called them scarecrow eyelashes because the jelly had dried up.

Let us know how it went.

As a transplanted New Yorker I have to agree that a lot of FL drivers are bad. I am wondering if it is because there’s a preponderance of older people here. I know they drive slowly and reaction times are not as great but too many other people are impatient. Funny how I label older people “they” and don’t include myself.

It might also be because Floridians are more laid back and courteous....dunno. Been in FL 20 years and I still drive like a New Yorker and keep up with the other drivers even if we are all zooming over the speed limit.

However, this time of year with everyone shopping, I have to say the young mothers better get a grip on their driving because they are not looking where they are going...parking lots being the worse. I was a young mother driver myself and can appreciate having tired children in the car and being distracted but I have had to honk my horn too many times to avoid being backed into or hit.

@merprep Must really be deep there Love to go sleep riding though when its like that . I remember the streets would be closed and all the kids would go out at night from the top of the hill to the creek In the old days

The next thirty minutes are going to be very intense. Storm damage in the county just next to us. Sirens going off now. It feels like tropical weather when you walk outside. I pray that we all are safe and sound when this is over. This is not our first rodeo. Yet, we have a healthy respect for Mother Nature here in the South.

Tomorrow will be a better day, hopefully, and we can talk.
