@jtbrown740 Good morning, and welcome to Mayo Connect! We are a diverse group of patients, family members, and caregivers from a wide spectrum of health concerns, who share experiences and offer support to others, and receive so much in return! We are not medical doctors, and cannot diagnose nor offer medical opinions. I also have Stage 3b kidney disease, for well over a decade; my GFR ranges between 32 to 37%. Here are a couple of discussion threads from Mayo Connect, that you might want to look through for ideas. Having kidney disease doesn't have to be considered a death sentence.

Also, I highly recommend rsnhope.org for information. This organization was started and is run by a friend of mine who has dealt with kidney issues since age 3!
You will find there are several different possible causes of kidney disease, chief among them is high blood pressure and diabetes. My husband's kidney disease was caused by untreated high blood pressure, that led to dialysis and subsequent transplant just over three years ago. My suggestion to you and your mother is to educate yourself on what will work best for her, follow your nephrologist's guidelines, look for a support group in your area, or turn to us here on Mayo Connect. If medication is prescribed, take it faithfully. Diet and exercise is critical to help physically and mentally.
I hope you will come back and let us know how we can further assist you and your mother on this journey? Has the dr explained the root cause of the kidney disease?

Hello.
The Dr has not explained the root cause but I know it’s Hypertension. It started this summer and I ended up in the emergency for 4 hours with 232/110 . A lot of investigations with blood test etc, and last week I got a call saying I had kidney disease and I was referred to a specialist. First appointment will be Jan 7, 2020
