hemorrhoid rubber band ligation

Has anyone had a rubber band ligation for hemorrhoids? My friend is considering having it done but, is terrified of everything she reads online. Is the procedure that painful and risky?

My wife had it done, easy peasy! No problems!
Nothing to worry about.
