Thank you jim for the statement on taken ones life! When you are in so much pain day after day, it is so discourageing, and all my doctor wants to do is surgery but can't tell me if it will help or not? He says I have Chiari malformation and wants to cut my head open to help my spinal fluid move?? But dnt know if or when it will help, then why bust my head open, really. I'm just sick of feeling so sick and sad all the time.

Hi @resawaller
Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. I completely understand how chronic pain can drive someone to consider or actually commit suicide.
From your post it sounds like your doctor didn't explain things well, and/or you didn't understand him/her.
The Chiari malformation does indeed block spinal fluid from circulating, by obstructing the opening between the brain and the spinal cord.
You can google Chiari malformation. There is a good explanation of the various types, treatments, etc on the Mayo Clinic site.
You have to go back to your doctor and ask lots of questions to make sure you understand your diagnosis and prospective treatment. You can also ask your PCP. If you don't get sufficient information, get a new doctor!

@resawaller I sure know how you're feeling. I'm there more than I'd like. We're going to have our 3 month old granddaughter and her family here for Thanksgiving week. Our daughter married a Coast Guard IT, so we're liking the fact that they're closer to us than his last post in Boston. He was transferred to Alameda, CA, just a day away. Family is an important part of our safety plans.
