IBD in people without a colon.

Have had ileostomy for 40 years, and now experiencing what I think is IBS. Am taking rifaximin but find I feeling a lot of pain in my pelvic area later in the day. I think antibiotics started this whole thing a year ago. Thinking of having an mri with contrast of abdominal area but afraid it might make things worse. Anyone experience this?

It sounds as if your pain and discomfort under ribs and in pelvic are are relatively recent and of course causing anxiety. It is possible that you still could have small intestinal overgrowth even if you took rifaximin. Do you have a GI doctor? Who requested the MRI? Have you had an ultrasound?

It sounds as if your pain and discomfort under ribs and in pelvic are are relatively recent and of course causing anxiety. It is possible that you still could have small intestinal overgrowth even if you took rifaximin. Do you have a GI doctor? Who requested the MRI? Have you had an ultrasound?

I do have a GI doctor who feels it is IBS. As for th MRI, I am driving myself crazy with anxiety and thought it might rule out the cancer issue. Now I am not so sure it is a good idea and the contrast might irritate things more. Have had an ultrasound.

@supercalifragilistic - Thank you for the info! Before you go ahead with the MRI, you could discuss your anxiety with the GI doctor so you would be sure you have the right test in mind. There are times when a CT scan offers more info. I would do the same as you- confirm there isn’t anything else going on causing your recent symptoms. Let me know what you decide to do!

Hi There! I am having a contrast MRI this week. Hopefully it will put my mind at ease. The CT scan just adds more radiation to my system.connie

Well just got my MRI results which showed slight prominence of pancreatic duct with no lesions. My former CT scan from 2 years ago mentioned the slight pronounce but it was unchanged from a previous one. Now I am really freaked
