Baking Soda is extremely high in sodium. While in kidney failure my blood pressure was always high and I was put on a low sodium diet. For me baking soda prior to transplant would have been very dangerous. Everyone is different so I would say it's best to consult with your Nephrologist and discuss the risks and benefits. E-consults are so easy you may hear back in a day.

There is research it helps clear creatinine. You must watch your sodium!

My husband is CKD stage 4 and his nephrologist told him to use 1 tsp/day baking soda, or be prescribed medication. The purpose was to balance the body ph to lessen the burden on the kidneys. So far, labs are stabile.
