I had to pay for blood testing for the knee implant parts. It's the best $600.00 I ever spent. If you are allergic it must come out, once allergic always allergic and the reaction time and severity will only get worse.

I should specify that for the knee implant component blood test I didn't have to see an allergist. The blood was drawn at the orthopedic hospital and sent back to Chicago to a lab which tested for about 8 different metals and the bone cement.
A 5 Day Patch Test Panel can be given by an allergist or dermatologist licensed for this test and the entire panel runs about $1,500 but there is a separate metal panel which I imagine would be less.
Ortho said the blood test was more accurate. In my case I tested positive to 5 or 6 metals (not to titanium, yet was told traces of other metals are in titanium so it couldn't be considered). I did not test positive to bone cement. A surprise to me as I am allergic to several other types of adhesives.
