Sneaky indoor mosquitoes
This is just posting out of sheer frustration. Twice in the last 3 days, somebody, somewhere, somehow, left a screen door or not-tight screen window open, and all the hungry - this is the humid South, here = mosquitoes found some pioneers to get in. Zooming in to my exposed body parts, even if I limit those, the bugs will find ear lobes, or similar extreme locations. The bites itch intensely, and it’s hard not to scratch..So any commiseration, or actual advice - that I haven’t tried - to stop that... input - but only actual, tried and true, please - welcome. For both itch relief, and effective mosquito control while working outdoors. I do use “Off” or equivalent, but only on exposed areas. Most yard work done is done all summer in long pants and long sleeves.

@ellerbracke I’m sorry but I know of no solution. If you are itching so intensely you must have a reaction to the bites. I used to, and I also was the one who the mosquitos flocked to, so I can sympathize. I haven’t had a problem in a while. I’m not sure if my body chemistry has changed or it’s just that I don’t go outside much after dusk.

Oh sister, I am hearing you loud and clear @ellerbracke! I live in NE FL and there are days that I sit at my computer and get bitten repeatedly by mosquitos that have gotten in the house somehow. Sometimes, if they get in and I can't find them or spray or kill them, they come into my bedroom and buzz around my ears at night. That drives me crazy. When that happens, I get up and put Cutter mosquito repellant on my ears and neck and arms - anything sticking out of the bed. I wish I could give you better advice. I wish more that you could give ME advice. I hate mosquito bites!!
@ellerbracke The Avon brand Skin So Soft products have always helped me as a deterrent. I now am using Menthol lotions for dry skin and have vew mosquito problems. The best relief I have found for the itching is to wash with mild soap and lots of water, rinse with lots of water and cover with a mixture of baking soda and water put on the spot as a poultice. Sometimes I use alcohol to clean the spot and cover with a bit of white toothpaste. I use Pepsodent because it is generally the cheapest on the shelf.
@ellerbracke oooo mosquitoes! The scourage of humankind. I’ve often thought of getting mosquito netting to hang over my bed or to drape over me when I’m sitting reading. It could be a real problem if I’m cooking or doing dishes, though. 🥴😁
I used Avon skin so soft for mosquitoes when I lived in Florida. It worked. It seems to me there are oils or homeopathic remedies but we need to check the web on that. Becky's mosquito netting works. May sound silly but I did that in the west indies on vacation.
GM Eller.... In my travels I’ve noticed that mosquitos are not the same everywhere with the worst being in Alaska which I would not have thought before going there one summer. I had heard that mosquitos there have been known to kill an adult moose. I know that they could penetrate blue jeans and other heavy materials. I suggested that someone might create Kevlar clothing and in a seminar that I was attending I was presented with an airbrushed t-shirt with a scene of dive bombing mosquitos with machine guns along with their sword size stingers or whatever the official names of that thing is that penetrates your skin. While being bothered by any pest it seems that they immediately move to the top of the list of bugs I hate the most but seriously, is there any biting bug ( stinging ) that is not at the top of the list. Have you every been bitten by a horse fly?
The day before hurricane Dorian hit I was clearing a space in my garage for my car and the mosquitos just came into the garage during the day and attack. Day 1 I presprayed my shirt collar, sleeves, socks, and used a lemon-weed spray on exposed areas but I was bitten through my clothes. Day 2 I sprayed all of my clothes and burned 10 incense sticks. One or all of those things helped. I think mosquitos are getting worse over time and now we need to worry about diseases they carry.
What’s worse? Mosquitos, ticks, fleas, flies at a picnic, spiders, cockroaches, or name your own worst favorite bug. Reminds of a joke I probably can’t tell here
@stuckonu : Ah yes, all the bugs.... I’m very unhappy to say that I have been bitten by horse flies more times than I care to remember. Strangely enough those instances mostly happened when I was growing up in Austria. The horseflies there are commonly called “Bremsen”, and they hang out around lakes, on wooded mountain hiking trails, near public tennis courts.... practically everywhere. Not a pleasant bite. Other than that, I have been mauled by bees, hornets, wasps, yellow jackets (as in digging into one of their nests by accident, being stung about 40 times, and passing out), fire ants, fleas, and of course mosquitoes. Outdoors I know how to. protect myself, it’s just the whining noise that suddenly starts just when I want to nod off at night that drives me wild!!!
@ellerbracke Talk about yellow jackets my husband found a nest one time and poured kerosene down the nest that cured them didn't see any flying around after that
@lioness That would do it. Thankful he was wise enough to not ignite the kerosene.
@becsbuddy I have seen some of those big black ones. Weather is cooling so they are seeking warmth.
