I was so infected for years with mac that my air sacs were getting nearly totally impacted. It was advised that I prepare for a possible lung transplant. Because my lung function was so low (32%) Mayo decided that I should get pre-qualified for a transplant, just in case. They also decided to try to turn the infection around which they were successful in doing. My lung function remains low, but I am infection free from mac since 2014, and pseudomonas free since 2016. Every patient is different, therefore; treatment is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. Determinants are: type of mac infection, and susceptibility to the antibiotics.
