@bibes

Hi, Kate. I don't know if you remember me. I am the one with the fruity kitty, Apple.
As I previously stated I am 85 and have nodular MAC. The nodular part just
reared its ugly head a year ago. I have no symptoms except shortness of breath and tiredness. The last time I got on this site
I said I was to have another cat scan in six months. Well, I had it and the nodules had
mildly improved. My shortness of breath has seemed to have gotten worse in the last year. I see my doctor tomorrow. As stated before I would not take the
big 3 or the arkacye (sp) because I refuse to endanger my sight and hearing.
Before I see my doctor, I would like to ask how you cured your MAC and also
if there is anyone out there who has been successful with alternative routes or
other antibiotics with no scary side effects. I still walk two miles a day but
frequently go to bed after that. Also, did you have a suspect ability test?

@bibes Hello there. If you click on my round picture icon, my treatment plan will pop up. There are other ways to successfully treat mac. I was so infected for years with mac that my air sacs were getting nearly totally impacted. It was advised that I prepare for a possible lung transplant. Because my lung function was so low (32%) Mayo decided that I should get pre-qualified for a transplant, just in case. They also decided to try to turn the infection around which they were successful in doing. My lung function remains low, but I am infection free from mac since 2014, and pseudomonas free since 2016. Every patient is different, therefore; treatment is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. Determinants are: type of mac infection, and susceptibility to the antibiotics.

@bibes ...Yes...I do remember you and Apple...I had the Melon and Grape kitties!! We could have had a nice furry fruit salad.
I have not cured my MAC but it seems to be holding and my symptom of shortness of breath has subsided and I am pretty much rid of the phlegmy stuff that I used to cough up. I still do have some fatigue. I also think I would not consider the big 3 as I dread pharmaceuticals and their side effects. I would like to think that my routine of nebulizing 7% saline daily, taking Astragalus to boost my immune system and NAC for the immune and respiratory system have helped. I continue to walk for about 3/4 hours a day. Oh...also take supplement Clear Lungs...1x a day and have a stringent pure diet...especially no mucousy milk!
I believe when I had the bronchoscopy that they did the susceptibility testing but I did not follow up on that as I don't want the meds.

Glad to hear there has been improvement with your nodules. I do not have a super Pulmonologist that is monitoring me. I did go to Mayo for a second opinion and mostly follow that Dr's advice and use my Primary. I am not sure if you follow this site regularly...but I did see that there can be a natural conversion of MAC, and it was a promising percentage. Wow! I danced the day I saw that. I think with a good diet and preventative measures that the body tries very hard to heal itself. I hope that is what is behind your promising nodules. As to your shortness of breath....I know that when I had it I started using an Incentive Spirometer that helped tremendously....building up my natural lung function ability. It occurred to me when I was gasping for air one day that I just was not getting enough oxygen and it made sense...and it worked for me. It is the little breathing exercise apparatus that improves the volume of air you can take in and expel. They give it to you in the hospital after an operation so that you do not develop pneumonia....I used it maybe 5x a day till my lung function improved. At any rate...it worked wonders for me. Please let us know how your appointment goes. Wishing you the best of health and lots of purrs from the Apple of your eye!! Kate PS...you can google Incentive Spirometer for a utube video on how to use it.

@bibes YOU GO GIRL! still walking 2 miles a day at age 85?? You will be my daily inspiration when I don’t wanna go to the gym and I don’t want to do my airway clearance! God Bless and keep you.
