Thank you. I think I need a stool specimen. I don't get rechecked for another 3 weeks & that is ith a blood test. Do you think since we stopped the omeprazole that are levels will be better? I have been off of it for almost 5 months so When I do get the next blood test hopefully we can figure it out. Mt stomach is very swollen. All pushed out around the belly button area & I always had a flat stomach until my surgery last year for the removal of intestional & stomach adhesion's & I have not been the same since. I am also suffering terribly with feet & leg Neuropathy & the meds don't seem to help. Keep me posted & I iwll do the same. Genie
I only stopped the Omeprazole a month ago. Had a repeat MRI today and the doctor will review it with me Thursday. I will let you know if there is a change. How is your blood sugar? I know with pancreas problems you can become a diabetic. Neuropathy can be a sign of diabetes. I haven't had my blood sugar checked for 3 months now. I can be a diabetic by now. Hope you feel better. Louise

Hi Genie. Saw doc today and he said my MRI was much better than the last one. He said the pancreatitis was resolving and he thought it was from an auto immune disease because he gave me steroids for 2 weeks and that would help the auto immune process. Told me to hold off on enzymes. Now I wait and observe my stools. If I start to have a lot of them again, I will need the enzymes. If not, I may be ok.
Thank you for your prayers. I will keep you in mine and hope for some good news for you. Louise

Hi Louise
Sounds like good news. No dr. has given me a stool test. Do you think I should ask for one & do you think it would help diagnose my pancreas high enzymes? What do you mean hold off on the enzymes? I will keep you in my prayers.Take Care Genie

I apologize, I am coming in late on this thread, and while I should go back and read it from the beginning (and I plan to), for the sake of time, I'm just going to ask! Can I assume (since you are talking about Omeprazole) that your pancreatitis developed after taking that? Some of the others here, also?
I also have it and don't know the cause. Doctor said it can be genetic, or from taking Omneprazole for 16 years, or pancreas divisium, meaning I have two pancreatic ducts instead of one....lucky me! Can be from alcohol, and I do drink alcohol, but not enough to cause pancreatitis.
This won't answer your question, but I've been reading a lot about pancreatitis, and while there are some known causes, i.e alcoholism, often there is no cause (or one that can be identified). You likely are just one of those lucky folks, as you said. I think you have to be a serious alcohol drinker to blame that, otherwise there would be a lot more people with pancreatitis walking around!
I'm curious about your enzyme levels, which are elevated. Is that typical of pancreatitis? That they are elevated, not low? I suppose I could look into that....

My lipase & amylase levels are high & the dr. says I have mild pancreitis. I get checked next month to see if they gone higher. Does anyone with this problem have a swollen stomach? My stomach sticks out & I am small frame & always had a flat stomach so I was just curious if anyone else has experienced it?
I also have pancreitis I think due to omeprazole bc I was taking it for years. That is the only med I am taking that suggests it could have some effect.

My Lipase was elevated. Amylase was always good. Dr. thinks I have an auto immune pancreas. Being on Omeprazole for 16 years didn't help...in fact probably made it worse.

I took it for 16 years. I am sure that helped cause it. I am now off of it, and I take Zantac twice a day.
