I also have it and don't know the cause. Doctor said it can be genetic, or from taking Omneprazole for 16 years, or pancreas divisium, meaning I have two pancreatic ducts instead of one....lucky me! Can be from alcohol, and I do drink alcohol, but not enough to cause pancreatitis.

I also took omeprazole for many years but not as long as you. I stopped it about 4 months ago but I still have the high enzymes. I take another blood test in a month to see if it has gone up or down. I had a endoscopy at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix & all the ducts were ok so they are puzzled. I don't drink & I;m not a diabetic . Do you have burning in your stomach area. I get that a lot. Thank you for oyur feedback. I will mention the omeprazole to my dr.

This won't answer your question, but I've been reading a lot about pancreatitis, and while there are some known causes, i.e alcoholism, often there is no cause (or one that can be identified). You likely are just one of those lucky folks, as you said. I think you have to be a serious alcohol drinker to blame that, otherwise there would be a lot more people with pancreatitis walking around!

I'm curious about your enzyme levels, which are elevated. Is that typical of pancreatitis? That they are elevated, not low? I suppose I could look into that....
