Gabapentin a controlled substance in Virginia. What do I do?
Gabapentin is now a controlled substance in the State of Virginia. Does anyone have any substitute remedies for leg, ankle and foot pain? Cognac6

I have had to go outside of my prescription plan when health insurance either refuses to cover or the cost is astronomical. Ask your neurologist and/or pharmacist to advise you on the proper channels to go through. There are websites and phone numbers to contact for assistance in high cost medicines. Typically direct to the manufacturer of the drug. I have also needed to use this strategy for migraine meds that insurance refused to cover.
i found out that my meds cost less @ CVS because they are the plans preferred pharmacy. i also use RX Saver by Retailmenot and have gotten a huge discount
hi, I was prescribed garapendit in the pass but it did not help at all. Now I take lyrica every 6 hours or thee times a day It helps very much. I hope this will help you.
Many states are considering reclassification of Neurontin because of the possibility of misuse.
California has been talking about it for some time. Just because it’s reclassified doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get it. Lyrica has always been a controlled substance.

Dear Friends, the Gov. of VA was the one to determine Gabapentin should be controlled. I can still get it, but it is strictly monitored. I apologisze for the confusion and REALLY appreciate your suggestions about Lyrica. @cognac
My husband has tried Good rx which has been advertised on tv. At some pharmacies some medications are free .. or at least less than insurance copay... and others the same medications are a higher price. I think Good rx has an app. Always good to shop around. If not a good deal that way talk to the company.

The justification to reclassify Neurontin is thanks to the drug addicts and people who want to misuse it and intensify the effects of some other medications. There has been in increase in deaths in people abusing Neurontin. It’s to bad they cause such grief for those who legitimately take it as it’s prescribed.

Yes. You are correct. My apologies for misstating. I can still get Gabapentin, it is just much more difficult. Please move my initial post to Neuropathy, let the people know I over-reacted and it is still available. And this is just for VA and few other states. @cognac
I wanted you to know that Lyrica/pregablin is generic now. So if you tolerate It better I thought you might like to know.
I know how it is on a tight budget. I'm allergic to both medications & can not tolerate neither one of them, but my husband swears by it. He takes the generic now. Also you can call the manufacturer's of the medication & they send you forms to pay for it for you if you make less than certain incomes & not just for super low incomes. Hope this info helps.
