Eliminating Foods for Neuropathy pain

I have tried doing without certain foods and drinks containing caffeine and have discovered it helps me to lower my neuropathy pain to a level that is tolerable. It is not easy to eliminate chocolate, tea, and coffee from my diet.

Everytime I go into a car and my husband drives my right foot vibrates alot after I get out of the car. I put two pillows on top of my foot. It helps, but I still get some vibration, especially my right toes and under my right toes. It seems I can't drive, but I want to drive. Nothing seems to help. What would you suggest? Thanks.

Hi @cncwi17@steeldove posted a photo of hand controls he has had installed. I'm not sure of the cost other than it's expensive. He can probably give you a ball park figure. Here is the post he made with a photo.

I have tried eliminating/adding different foods while sticking generically to my medical diet for hypoglycemia -- no foods, beverages, or spices have made a difference so far. Peggy

Hello Mike @mikeoc, Welcome to Connect. Thank you for the private message. I thought I would answer your questions here in this discussion Eliminating Foods for Neuropathy pain so that you can meet other members that share your symptoms and are asking similar questions. I’m sorry that your doctors seem to be dismissive. Two main items that I’ve learned are not helpful for any neuropathy are sugar and alcohol. I’ve given up alcohol and try really hard to limit the amount of sugar I take in.,,but I do have my days. Your other question is tramadol any help and your concern that it is addictive. I’m not able to answer that question but I would like to tag @artscaping and @jimhd and bring them into the conversation to see if they have some suggestions or information for you. If you click the VIEW & REPLY button at the bottom of this email message it will take you to the discussion that I’m hoping will provide you some answers.

Have you talked with your doctor about the dosage and times of the day you take your medication to see if a small change might help?

I have found that my neuropathy is significantly related to and affected by certain foods, particularly sugar and any high glycemic carbohydrates, and also alcohol. I also suspect that I have a sensitivity to gluten and possible dairy. Tomatoes and other nightshade plants can cause a reaction. I try to stay on a modified Keto diet and eat mostly foods with fats and proteins and very limited carbs. Seems to help me. Have others had similar experiences?

I've learned the hard way consuming too much sugar. I've also reduced processed foods such as frozen entrees and deli meat. Plus no more chips and unnatural snack type foods.

I am glad you posted this thread! I have recently begun to suspect that there are foods that cause my SFN to flare. I am going to start documenting my SFN experiences as it relates to food to see if there may be a connection.

Last evening I had coffee with creamer sweetened with monk fruit which I had never tried before. It has set me on fire — feet, legs and hands are burning. Has anyone else had that kind of reaction?

Wondering if @rwinney @iceblue @cncwi17 @avmcbellar @retiredteacher have any input on whether similar foods have caused a neuropathic reaction for them.

How are you finding going off some of these foods, @catro?

Hi @lisalucier, I don’t know what happened. For months I stopped receiving email chats from the mayo clinic until yesterday. I did discover through trial and error that high acidic foods cause a burning sensation in my stomach and esophagus. Can’t tell yet if it has any effect on my neuropathy to left leg. I am still experimenting. I counteract alkaline foods with acidic foods for any meals.
