3 months after appendectomy
In March I got my appendix out, but the pain has never gone away fully. Recently my one incision has been getting puffy redder at the bottom and hard. (Somewhat painful) but on and off for the past three months I still have sharp stabbing pain by my belly button to my right lower side and my doctor won’t do anything

@shanamarie22 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We're glad you found us! We are not doctors, and cannot give you medical advice. We are patients who can share our experiences, and offer solutions that worked, or didn't, for us. Is your Dr the same one who did the surgery? If not, I would contact the surgeon. At the very least, get a second opinion. There may be an internal adhesion or scar tissue that is irritating your muscles. You may need a CT scan or MRI to determine the issue. Certainly do not give up until you get the answers! Keep "being a squeaky wheel" to get remedies. Please come back and keep us updated. We care.

@shanamarie22 I'm so sorry for your pain. Have you talked to your surgeon that did the surgery like Ginger said it could be an adhesion or scar tissue causing the problem. Good luck let us know how you are we are a caring community
@shanamarie22 like @gingerw and @lioness, I agree you need to get this resolved. If the surgeon is not doing anything then you do need to get a second opinion. I know of a number of people who have had an appendectomy and after the incision healed they were fine. I had mine out as a child and I clearly remember being great immediately. I remember that because I felt so fine that I was doing cartwheels and my father immediately stopped me, afraid that I would rupture the incision!

Yes I have gone to the surgeon and she just said it was the way my body was healing and my doctor just continuously will say it’s ovarian cysts coming back. The other doctors that I have seen all think it might be stump appendicitis my gallbladder or something else all in general but they don’t do anything about it
Thanks
@shanamarie22 Keep pounding on doors. Report to your county medical association, or take it to your state level. Document/journal your symptoms and pain, including which Dr's you have seen, when, their comments. Get a copy of your records and surgery reports. Is there a teaching university near you that you can go to? Keep looking for that one Dr who will finally believe you, and start the ball rolling to help you.
Ginger
@shanamarie22 Totally agree with Ginger look for another Dr. This is not acceptable .
I mean in the fall I’ll be going to a university for nursing and psychology but not really any teaching universities that I could go to
@shanamarie22 Be a "squeaky wheel", no matter what that takes. Keep track of who you speak to and when. Knock on as many doors as it takes. There has to be an answer, and someone who will assist you!

@shanamarie22 How far is a large, highly regarded medical center? There are no teaching hospitals within about 50 miles? The ones closest for me are about 55 miles away but it’s worth it, the doctors there are so much more experienced in conditions that are out of the ordinary simply because they see more of them. They may tell you the same thing that you have been told, but at least then you can feel that you have done all that you could.
