@rbon1 : I wanted to add one more comment. My brother also had a meniscus tear and some inflammation on the bones in his knee. TKR was brought up, he declined. Went to work with a physical therapist who specializes in sports injuries, and added acupuncture sessions with a practitioner of traditional chinese medicine. I took 6 months of treatments and exercises, but now his knee is perfectly fine (confirmed by X-rays and MRI).

@ellerbracke Thanks for information on your brother I think I'm going to look into this Turned out xray showed just arthritis but pain goes down leg also

I know this question is years "after the fact", but I don't understand how your brother's knee is "perfectly fine" when he must still have that meniscus tear and perhaps some additional difficulties with his knee. Did he have a very minor tear of the meniscus, not a serious tear like they call a "root/horn" - a torn posterior or anterior meniscus tear? I ask because I tore some cartilage in my left knee over a month ago (MRI confirmed the tears, but no torn ACL, some dislocation of the kneecap ), and I have an appt with the ortho doctor on Monday to determine treatment options. The one tear is a root tear, and it has just stopped being very painful over just the past three days. I have not had PT for it as yet. I have a small Baker's cyst behind that left knee. Any brief comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
