@shielda69. That's not acceptable You should think about changing Dr.s The Dr works for you not you for the Dr You need to be proactive it's your health

Hello @mstephen, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @lioness and other members. Sad to hear your doctors won't listen. I've been labelled as a person with pre-diabetes and have many times been offered appointments with a Mayo nutritionist/dietitian. i had already seen one years before to help me with weight management but I just didn't have the motivation at the time to keep up with it. Now I know how important it is I've made some changes in my lifestyle to eat healthier and lose some weight.

Here's an article you might find helpful - Excerpt from article... "Diets rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, moderate in alcohol consumption, and lower in refined grains, red/processed meats, and sugar-sweetened beverages have demonstrated to reduce diabetes risk and improve glycemic control and blood lipids in patients with diabetes.Feb 11, 2016" -- Prevention and Management of Type 2 Diabetes: Dietary ...: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4751088/

If my doctor is not open to listening to my requests to improve my health, I would be seeking another opinion. I'm not sure if it's an option for you but if you would like to seek help from Mayo Clinic, contact one of the appointment offices. The contact information for Minnesota, Arizona and Florida can be found here http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.

A website, NutritionFacts.org, by Dr. Michael Greger might be helpful to you. He has many videos concerning nutrition and diet. Search for ones on diabetes.

The doctors don't believe you still stick to a diabetic diet so the only thing you can do is get mad and prove them wrong. I suggest purchasing the Mayo Diet book which has more information than you can use, and is very practical. My only complaint is that I eat much more protein thant he amounts recommended and probably won't cut down anytime soon. I spoil myself with fresh veggies and fruit and that helps me eat the right food for a balanced diet. I do not bring home food I should be avoiding. That is a no no and I wouldn't drive back to town to get something I shouldn't have. I have enough faith in myself to stick to eating the best foods for me. Dorisena
